The Qatar Chapter of the Institution of Engineers (India) organised a technical seminar on sustainable development through Global Sustainability Assessment System (GSAS) in Doha recently.
Honorary Secretary Dipak Dahake outlined the Qatar Chapter's professional activities in Qatar and talked about corporate/non-corporate membership classes of the institution.
Currently, he said, Qatar Chapter is offering free annual membership to the graduate engineers.
Sustainability experts and GSAS professionals from Qatar Design Consortium, Sreejaya and Afeef, delivered an in-depth presentation on GSAS requirements for rating and certification of green building and infrastructures, credits and compliance, system framework, scoring levels and ratings and best practices followed in GSAS.
As many as 160 practicing engineers from various contracting and consulting organisations benefitted from the seminar, the IEI Qatar Chapter said in a statement.
Chairman Aniruddha Kulkarni said a technical workshop will be held on ancient construction technology and extreme durable structures that last for 500 or 1,000 years. Eminent global expert and researcher in un-reinforced AVD masonry structures Mahesh Varma will be the guest speaker.
The workshop seeks to provide critical review of the possibility of constructing extreme durable buildings vis-a-vis existing construction technology of reinforced cement concrete having a life of 50-60 years.
Varma will talk about structural analysis and design of un-reinforced AVD, manufacturing of natural eminent hydraulic lime and construction methodology for AVD structures.
