The Criminal Court has slapped a fine of QR50,000 on a citizen for posting objectionable tweets on social media against Minister of Education and Higher Education HE Mohammed bin Abdul Wahed al Hammadi.
The bench headed by Judge Mostafa Abdulmajid al Badweihi with Judge Ghanim Rashid al Khayarin, Judge Ali Rashid al Marri and Assistant Judge Abdallah Thqail al Shemmari as members found the citizen guilty of making false accusations against the victim charging him with misusing authority. The defendant also violated social values by publishing news related to the victim's personal life.
According to the verdict, the citizen posted objectionable tweets about the minister and criticised the way scholarships are distributed.
The minister's lawyer said the minister's sons have not availed any government scholarships. While one of them is studying at his own expenses, the other got scholarships from a civil society body. The Public Prosecution had charged the accused under the provisions of article no. 8 of law 14 of 2014.
