Telecom operator Ooredoo on Sunday launched an exclusive channel to offer best of MBC contents for its Ooredoo TV subscribers in Qatar.
Named 'MBC+ Ooredoo Channel', the new channel will include a selection of MBC's best Arabic content.
The channel, which went on air after the launch in Doha, is available on channel number 180 of Ooredoo TV.
Launched as part of a multi-year agreement between Ooredoo and MBC Group, the channel will have a unique mix of popular MBC shows like Tabakh Al Sultan, Scoop, Dahsha, El Hokm, El Hob Al Halal and many more.
According to a multi-year memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Ooredoo and MBC Group signed last year, Ooredoo has the exclusive rights to some of the MBC's most popular high definition (HD) channels in Qatar.
After the agreement, Ooredoo TV holds exclusive rights to MBC HD channels including MBC1, MBC2, MBC3, MBC4, MBC Drama, MBC MAX, MBC Action, as well as any future HD additions. Under the agreement, Ooredoo also have exclusive access to MBC+ channels such as MBC+ Drama and MBC+ Variety.
Talking to media persons on the sidelines of the channel launch event, Ooredoo Qatar CEO Waleed al Sayed said,"The new channel is aimed at providing Ooredoo TV customers with all the popular MBC HD programmes across MENA at one place. Now, our viewers will not need to change channels to watch their favourite MBC shows. All will be available in one channel."
"This channel will prove to be a milestone for our entertainment portfolio, as it will strive to provide the content our customers want at one place, with the highest quality picture," he said.
Speaking on the occasion, MBC Group CEO Sam Barnett said,"The speed and sophistication of the network provided by Ooredoo will ensure that viewers in Qatar will be able to experience audiovisual content at industry leading levels of quality."
"It was only a few months ago when we announced our intention to work together, and now our combined teams are ready to launch both MBC+ Ooredoo and our premium video on demand service SHAHID PLUS," he said.
Ooredoo and MBC Group had recently announced that Ooredoo customers can now exclusively enjoy MBC's SHAHID PLUS online service in Qatar. They can catch up with the latest exclusive shows, award-winning content among many dramas and movies with no advertisement.
In a statement issued by Ooredoo, the company said that existing Mozaic TV customers who want to upgrade to Ooredoo TV to watch the MBC+ Ooredoo Channel, can simply visit any Ooredoo retail shop to register and collect a free Ooredoo TV play device.
