Qatar-US ties very strong, says FM Feb 17, 2017 0 50 12345 QNALondonMinister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al Thani said Qatar's relations with the US are historic and strong.In his meeting with US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson in Washington, the FM said they discussed the current situation in the Middle East, and cooperation in the fight against terrorism. The FM said Qatar and the US agreed to continue to work to strengthen the historic relationship between them as it is very important to promote peace and stability in the region. In a statement to Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper published on Thursday, the FM said his talks with the US Secretary of State dealt with the situation in the region, especially in Syria, Iraq, Yemen and Libya. The FM said there are many common points of view between the two countries ” the need to find solutions to combat terrorism and extremism, and the necessity of the solutions to be within a comprehensive framework that meets the aspirations of the people. The FM described his meeting with his US counterpart as constructive. He said Tillerson led a strong partnership between Qatar and the US in the energy and oil sector in the past.
