The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and Public Health Care Corporation (PHCC), will hold for the seventh year in a row the annual routine Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis (TdaP) vaccination campaign for students of the tenth grade.
The campaign will start on Feb 19 (Sunday) and will continue until March 16.
MoPH will organise a workshop to launch the campaign on February 16. As many as 200 medical professionals from the MoPH, PHCC, semi-government medical facilities and the private sector as well as nurses from government and public schools are expected to attend the workshop.
The workshop will feature several informative presentations on the vaccination drive and its objectives.
The TdaP vaccine provides protection from the three diseases for at least ten years. The dose that will be administered to the students is the same as the routine vaccinations for adolescents. The campaign is also part of the routine vaccination schedule in the country covering all government, independent and private schools.
The three diseases have dangerous complications and may lead to permanent disability or even death. The MoPH has urged parents to have their children administered the vaccine to ensure their health and wellbeing.
