Prime Minister and Minster of Interior HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al Thani inaugurated the first phase of the Electronic Security Shield project at the headquarters of the National Command Center on Tuesday.
The project seeks to increase the level of electronic security in Qatar and enhance IT infrastructure and electronic network protection.
The electronic security operation room will focus on assisting Qatar's institutions and bodies and protecting its IT infrastructure against electronic security threats.
It will also cooperate with authorities concerned to enact security policies and provide training and consultancy relating to electronic security.
The security operation room will provide advanced levels of protection to other security operations centres in the country.
Its tasks include surveillance of IT infrastructure in different government agencies and institutions to detect and analyse cyber threats as well as respond to incidents and enhance access to cybersecurity status quo in the country.
It will build expertise and give specialised training to Qatari personnel in electronic security field and cooperate with international partners in order to exchange information on cyber threats and respond to incidents that require coordination at the international level.
The inauguration was attended by ministers, officials and directors of Interior Ministry's departments.
