The Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME), in coordination with several charities, will launch a campaign to support shepherds and develop national livestock.
Supported by Sheikh Thani Bin Abdullah Foundation for Humanitarian Services (RAF), EID Charity and the Qatari Red Crescent, the campaign will run from February 12 to 19.
The campaign targets more than 400 shepherds.
Khalaf al Oneizy, Director of Public Relations at MME, said,"We are keen on supporting shepherds and livestock farmers in order to develop our livestock breeding and achieve self-sufficiency in meat products."
The campaign aims to spread awareness among shepherds and provide them with medical and humanitarian support.
Oneizy said a packet containing first aid kit, jacket and other items will be distributed to shepherds.
The Qatari Red Crescent will conduct medical examinations on shepherds and as offer training on first aid. Specialists from MME will give lectures on increasing environmental awareness among shepherds.
The campaign is also supported by WASEL factory for environment-friendly materials.
Ibrahim al Ajlan from Qatar Red Crescent society said a medical team will distribute medical kits and conducting essential training courses in several languages for those who work in livestock farms.
Abdallah Mahmoud from RAF Charity said the campaign reflects the respect shown to livestock far workers.
Prize will be given to shepherds upon completion of the training courses successfully.
