An Asian expatriate worker's bid to commit suicide by climbing high voltage cables was foiled by security agencies.
This was disclosed by the Ministry of Interior on its social media platform.
Security personnel comprising civil defence and Lekhwiya rushed to the spot after the National Command Centre (NCC) received a report that an Asian expatriate was trying to commit suicide.
After reaching the spot, the security personnel tried to calm him down, disconnected the power supply and engaged him in a dialogue that lasted for a long time during which they contacted his wife in his home country to speak to him.
Finally, the civil defense men reached him using a crane and brought him down from the electric column. The authorities have started investigations into the circumstances leading to the incident.
