KATARA'S Esplanade is set to host the fourth edition of the Winter Festival from January 22 to 26.
The festival will feature workshops, traditional cultural shows and games.
The General Manager of the Cultural Village Foundation- Katara Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim al Sulaiti said:"The Winter Festival offers a blend of educational programmes and entertaining performances that will enthrall Katara's visitors. Besides, there will be an array of workshops and activities to entertain children along with their families and friends."
He added,"The Winter Festival coincides with the spring break in schools this year providing our children an opportunity to invest their free time in activities that are both entertaining and useful."
Commenting on the festival, the head of the organising committee of the Winter Festival Abdulrahman al Tamimi said:"The fourth edition of the festival in the serene setting of Katara offers a perfect package for people from all walks of life to relax and enjoy."
"The launch of the Winter Festival will coincide with the inauguration of the Arabian Oud Festival, a new Katara initiative. To be conducted on the sidelines of the Winter Festival, the Arabian Oud Festival will entail an exhibition that will display Arabian scents, explaining the specific history, literature, folklore and tradition associated with oud fragrances," Tamimi revealed.
He added:"The Winter Festival will be hosted in collaboration with various ministries and associations in Doha, including the Ministry of Municipality and Environment and the Childhood Cultural Centre. Al-Gannas Society Association will participate in the festival with an interactive exhibition and workshop on falconry and saluki. In addition, Katara Souq will host a display of local antiques and traditional food dishes."
Bin Muftah Medical Centre will present a programme on preventing illnesses commonly associated with the onset of winter.
An added attraction will be the presence of the famous Qatari blogger Vegas, who will be present at the venue to entertain visitors with his interpretation of the Winter Festival. Furthermore, the organisers of Al-Galayel Championship will host an exhibition displaying collectables and equipment from all previous championships.
Visitors to the festival will receive gifts that have been generously donated by various institutes in Qatar.
