A total of 869 consignments of various commodities were denied entry into the country in 2016 for failing to comply with the technical regulations and standards approved in Qatar.
The prevented items include 170 consignments of cosmetics, 285 consignments of electrical appliances, 219 toys consignments, 85 tyres consignments, 102 reinforcing steel consignments, 96 auto parts consignments, 58 containers consignments and one Bitumen 60/70 consignment.
The Qatar General Organization for Standards and Metrology (QS) has allowed entry of 43,636 consignments in 2016.
The denial of the entry for the consignments is in line with the efforts made by the QS to ensure compliance of goods and products manufactured locally or imported from abroad with the Qatari-approved standards and are of high quality.
The measures taken by the QS help in eliminating the possibility of entry of fake and counterfeit goods into the country to ensure health and safety of individuals and community.
The QS commended the efforts made by the government and private institutions to verify the conformity of goods with the standards and specifications.
The QS has called upon traders, importers and investors to adhere to Qatari standard specifications prior to importing goods, products or materials to Qatar.
