Indonesian Ambassador to Qatar HE Muhammad Basri Sidehabi recently hosted an award ceremony for Indonesian women in Qatar for their contribution to the socio-cultural diplomacy in Qatar.
The women mostly comprised wives of Indonesian expatriates working in various sectors such as banking, trade, services, hospitalities and oil and gas sectors.
Ambassador Basri appreciated the Indonesian women for their excellent contributions in socio-cultural promotion, including their performances in various international festivals in Qatar.
He added that Indonesian women have being playing their roles in supporting the mission of the embassy to promote good relations between two countries, particularly in socio-cultural fields for 2016 which marked the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Qatar.
According to the envoy, a former Indonesian First Pilot of F-16 fighter jet, Indonesian women have proved, through their contributions, to be a role model not only for their own families but also as an example of the personality of the Indonesian women in Qatar.
Chairperson of Dharma Wanita Persatuan of Indonesia Embassy (Indonesian Women Organisation of Embassy) Andi Una said the event was initiated with the aim of strengthening cooperation between the embassy and the Indonesians in diaspora, particularly for those who contribute to promoting socio-cultural activities. Earlier in September 2016, the embassy also held an award ceremony for Indonesian business community in Qatar, who played an important role in economic diplomacy in Qatar and who has links with the Indonesian business activity.
Embassy's Minister Counsellor Boy Dharmawan said that the award ceremony aimed to encourage and inspire the Indonesian community to enhance their contribution not only in socio-cultural activities but also in business activities between Indonesia and Qatar.
Soraya Alyahya, one of the award winners, expressed her appreciation for the embassy's initiative to organise this event and hoped that this kind of event can be routinely organised to promote good relations between two countries in various sectors. Amel Lia, who received an award for her contribution in dance and music activities, said that the award winners came from representatives of various places in Qatar such as Doha, Dukhan, Al Khor, Mesaeed and Al Wakrah.
