THE World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) recently hosted an informal roundtable with four WISE Prize for Education Laureates at the Skoll World Forum in Oxford.
The discussion focused on girls' education and included the participation of Dr Sakena Yacoobi, Founder and Executive Director of the Afghan Institute of Learning; Ann Cotton, Founder of Camfed; Vicky Colbert, Founder and Director of Escuela Nueva Foundation; and Dr Madhav Chavan, President of Pratham Education Foundation.
During the roundtable, the laureates stressed the importance of girls' education while engaging in discussions with those present at the session, including Sally Osberg, CEO of the Skoll Foundation, and Safeena Husain, Founder and Executive Director of Educate Girls.
WISE is an initiative of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF). Established in 2011, the WISE Prize for Education recognises individuals and teams for outstanding, life-long achievements in the field of education. The prize aims to elevate the status of education on the global agenda, and raise awareness of the key role education plays in empowerment and economic security of communities and nations.
The Skoll World Forum supports entrepreneurial approaches and solutions to some of the world's most pressing challenges by bringing together social entrepreneurs with partners in a collaborative pursuit of learning and large-scale social change. The WISE session brought the dedicated work of the laureates to the attention of a broader audience comprising high-level international stakeholders in the UK.
