After eenjoying a wonderful season, Al Rayyan have secured the the services of their four foreign players for the next season. The team will be heading to Spain for a training camp from July 28 to August 20.
Al Rayyan won the Falcon Shield, and also won the most awards at the Qatar Football Association award ceremony with Fossati being named named best coach, Tabata best player and top scorer jointly with Abdulrazak Hamdallah, and Rayyan getting the best fan club award. What are the preparations for next season, what can we expect from Al Rayyan? are there going to be any new signings?
All these questions and more were answered by Ali Salem Afifa, Head of Football at Al Rayyan, in an exclusive interview with the QSL.
Initially, he mentioned that the 2015/2016 season was a very special season for our club. Al Rayyan won the league after twenty-one years and broke many records in the QSL.
The head of football added that despite the great successes of the team in the last season, he is expecting the next season to be more difficult, and that they must prepare in the best way since Al Rayyan are going to be participating in the AFC Champions League next season.
Regarding changes in the squad for the next season, Salem said,"After renewing Fossati's contract, who led the team to the championship, the coach will provide the club with his needs in terms of players and it will be coordinated with the club board."
"The four returning for next season international players include Spain's Sergio Garcia, Paraguayan Caceres, South Korean Koo Myung, and Uruguayan Gonzalo Vieira."
"Concerning the Uruguayan player Gonzalo Vieira, whos contract ended after one season, there is an agreement to extend his contract and we wish him and all the players luck in the coming season," he added.
Regarding the local players, Salem said,"We are waiting for the vision of the coach to see which players he needs for the next season and we are here to support his vision. And we would like to thank the fans for their support this season and we hope to see them next season."
Salem also disclosed the venue for the club's upcoming training."The camp will take place in Spain and it will be from July 28 until August 20. There will be some friendly games as well as technical and physical training."
He also added that the team will start preparation in Qatar from July 10.
