The youngest students at Doha College welcomed award-winning Qatar-based author Mohana Rajakumar, who read her new children's book Everyday Wishes, the first in a series of emotional intelligence stories for children aged 3-5.
Mohana is a writer who has being living in Qatar since 2005 and Everyday Wishes is her first picture book. Judging by the looks on the children's faces when presented with this enchanting story, it will be a very successful one.
The book was launched in Qatar in April during the 6th annual World Book Day, the UNESCO established international celebration of reading. It was published under the pen name Hana Rogers, which Mohana uses for her children's books.
Everyday Wishes is all about wishing. Through the main character, MJ, readers experience a series of wishes such as wanting to travel on the school bus, eat different food etc.
Besides listening to MJ's story, the children also got to share their wishes and learn all about authors, illustrators and books.
Everyday Wishes is available in English, Arabic and Spanish, catering to the multilingual market in Qatar.
Mohana said,"I write novels for adults and love reading. As parents, my husband and I found ourselves entertained and inspired by the books we read to our sons. We wanted to write something that would appeal and teach them a valuable life lesson."
Mohana's visit delighted the children at Doha College Early Years, who already enjoy a world of imagination, wonder and books thanks to the Doha College libraries.
