Maverick filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma, currently waiting for the release of his forthcoming film Veerappan, says its making is not about"glorifying a criminal."
Veerappan is based on the dreaded sandalwood smuggler Koose Muniswamy Veerappan. It features how a man-hunt was initiated to kill him.
The Satya director took to Twitter to say that the movie was made to put"a mirror to how he was allowed to happen in the first place".
"Making Veerappan is not about glorifying a criminal but it's to put a mirror to how he was allowed to happen in the first place," Varma tweeted.
The 54-year-old filmmaker said that the story is about an unpredictable man.
"The story of Veerappan is proof that just one unpredictable man can overturn an entire existing system. Same is true for Donald Trump," he added.
Varma asserted that it is important to study bad people"like Veerappan because knowledge of how to finish bad people advances society."
The film stars Sandeep Bharadwaj, Sachiin Joshi, Usha Jadhav and Lisa Ray.
