On December 19, I read in your newspaper that a fund-raising campaign has been initiated to support the people of Aleppo. And what's good about it is that a huge amount of over 200 million riyals were collected by way of donations from kindhearted and generous residents of Qatar. It was mentioned in the newspaper that the funds were collected only during the first few hours after the campaign had been announced, so, I was thinking that if the project were to be extended, I guess the organisers will be able to collect more monetary help since I believe that, like me, some people are not yet aware of how they can participate in this noble cause.
When it was announced that Qatar would cancel the National Day celebrations in solidarity with the people of Aleppo, all I read about are praises for the Emir on his decision. There are those, companies and individuals, who mentioned that they've already spent a decent amount in preparation for the celebrations, but still favoured and pledged overwhelming support over the decision. I give praise and respect to all those who wholeheartedly extend their blessings to the Syrian people. I would also like to commend the initiative of all restaurants and cafes at Darb Al Saai and Souq Waqif for voluntarily donating their day's income to support the campaign. Those of us who have the privilege to live in safety conditions have a responsibility to extend help to our less fortunate brothers and sisters no matter how big or small it might be.
