In solidarity with the people of Aleppo, Qatar has decided to cancel the National Day celebration. In the wake of the carnage, powerful and moving messages are flooding my Facebook wall for the past two days. Even friends who I don't normally see posting about 'humanitarian issues' also spread the campaign to help save the people of Aleppo. There are videos circulating online that show Syrians posting their 'goodbye messages'. It was heartbreaking to hear them plea for help and yet they are almost giving up. I feel sorry for them considering that it has been five years and yet nothing has been done to stop the war. It is clear that Syria has suffered decimation and yet the world is standing by. It confuses me to the maximum level as to why superpowers were not able to end this bloodbath. I seriously got tired of hearing about peace dialogues and negotiated political transition because it has been promised for many years now. I close my eyes and try to feel the pain of the civilians, but, of course, it wouldn't help. Because, unfortunately, there is nothing I can do but pray for them, especially for the innocent children who are suffering, shocked, and starved the most. I can only imagine what they go through everyday... It breaks my heart. My heart goes out to all the people living this cruel reality, and yes, still, I pray that the Almighty will watch over them and lead them to safety and recovery.
