Organization of the Russian Compatriots in Qatar (OR CQ), a cultural body representing the Russian- speaking community in Qatar, celebrated what is called ‘New year Show’, at Ezdan Tower 3, in West Bay, recently.
The event was a reflection of the annual month-long festivities held all across Russia from mid-December to mid-January.
The families of the Russian-speaking expatriates attended the cultural show that included stage performances of the traditional Russian fairy tales and folk dance performances by children dressed in colourful costumes.
OR CQ Founder Chairperson Maria Loktyukhova said, “The New Year Show or the winter festivities is the pinnacle event of the year, celebrated by the whole of expatriate Russian community in Qatar, especially those who have children.
“We try to incorporate our popular fairy tales and folklore that are very much part of our cultural values, and we try to teach them to our children through events such as this one.
“Many foreigners and expatriates also join us, especially those from mixed families.
The New Year Show r e p r e s e n t s all around happines s , cheerful and festive joy that is celebrated all across Russia, and in Qatar we hold it a little in advance keeping in mind that many expatriates leave Qatar during the winter for vacations,” she said.
The programme included the performance of the popular Russian folk tale ‘Along the footsteps of the Firebird’, which was directed by Margarita Bologan.
The performance of the well-known fairy tale ‘Snowy Queen’, based on the novel of Hans Andersen, was also liked by the audience.
Katerina Kremenskaya directed the performance.
The ballet, ‘Renaissance’, and the children choir singing ‘Camerton’, were the other highlights of the show which was directed by Olga Protopopova of International Music Centre.
Also liked by the audience was the ballet ‘Arabesque in Qatar’, which was also directed by Margarita Bologan.
The Ambassador of Russian Federation in Qatar, HE Nurmakhmad Kholov, and the Press Attaché of the Russian Embassy, Victor Tihomirov, along with Sheikh Ali bin Abdallah al Thani of Ezdan Group, were also present during the show.
