HAMAD Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) has launched an initiative to publish and review researches and academic books of scholars and authors, through its foundation HBKU Press.
Headquartered in Doha, HBKU Press initiative is aimed to promote writing and publishing of peer reviewed journals, monographs, reference books, fictions and non-diction titles for adults and children.
Academic publishing is the subfield of publishing, which distributes academic research and scholarships, either single authored or multiple authored works.
The academic works submitted to the HBKU Press are required to go though a development process right from targeting the market audience, developing the material as well as submission of the material to the HBKU Press and finally its publication.
Dr Alwaleed Alkhaja, senior editor in the Academic Publishing Department at HBKU Press held an introductory session, at the Doha International Book Fair 2016 to explain to the visitors about how to present academic books to the HBKU Press.
He clarified that there are two types of publishing, which include open access publishing, in which readers can access content of scholarly work without financial barriers and non-open access, which is another way of publishing the author's works, where they get financial benefits.
"In line with Qatar National Vision 2030, we support open access to academic books, and now, all of our journal articles are available for free at Qscience.com.
HBKU Press, formerly known as Bloomsbury Qatar Foundation (BQF), launched its publishing programme in 2010 as a world class publishing house founded on international best practices. HBKU Press strives to be a cornerstone of Qatar's knowledge-based economy by providing a unique local and international platform for literature, literacy, scholarship, discovery and learning.
