THE giant cruise ship MSC Fantasia docked in Doha Port, (cruise ship terminal) on Wednesday, marking the first ever arrival of a mega cruise ship in Qatar. The ship carried over 3,000 passengers and 1,300 crew members on its maiden voyage to Qatar.
Qatar Ports Management Company- Mwani Qatar, the exclusive operator of the state's commercial and touristic ports, ensured the successful docking of the giant ship and offered the best services to passengers.
In a statement, Mwani Qatar described receiving one of the largest cruise ships in the world by Doha Port as a 'significant success' that reflected the hard work and great efforts exerted by all concerned parties.
"Along with our partners, we are making great strides towards ensuring that Qatar becomes a key port of call on all cruise itineraries that cover this region", Mwani added. The company noted that the 2016/2017 cruise season will witness the arrival of cruise ships in Qatar for the first time.
New measures have been taken to facilitate the docking of mega ships and smooth disembarkation of large groups of passengers in order to provide a seamless tourist experience for everyone on board, Mwani said.
It is worth mentioning that the cruise ship MSC Fantasia is the largest in terms of passengers visiting Qatar during this cruise season, with capacity of 4,500 passengers and 1,370 crew members.
MSC Fantasia was launched in 2008. The ship has a length of 333 metres, a beam of 37 metres and a draft of 8.65 metres. It also consists of 14 passenger decks out of 18, with 1637 of which 107 are suites, 1149 balcony and 294 inside rooms. The gross tonnage of the ship is 137,940 tonnes.
