Minister of Economy and Commerce HE Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim al Thani inaugurated the 4th edition of Qatar International Boat Show (QIBS) on behalf the Prime Minister and Interior Minister HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al Thaniat Mourn Marinas in Lusail City on Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion the MEC Minister said,"The event offers an opportunity to explore the possibilities of marine tourism through a display of yachts and address challenges facing the sector.
The event has grown bigger with every year and has become a significant contributor to the vibrant economy of Qatar by attracting participation from local as well as international businesses.
The opening day of the show was dedicated to VVIPs and many diplomats were present. The four-day event will open to the public on Thursday.
Spread extensively across Lusail Marina, the show opened on a spectacular note with display of adventurous feats of water sports.
The Head of operations at Blue Marine Hashim Alaitah told Qatar Tribune,"Our participation in QIBS has increased compared to last year. We are the sponsor of the water sports activities and will be presenting scintillating fly board show every day."
He added:"Adventure marine sport, which is our business, is gaining popularity in Qatar. We are targeting all sorts of customers during this show and going to offer fabulous discounts."
The owner of Al Arish Abdulla al Emadi said:"We are in fishing equipment business and participating in QIBS for the first time. We hope to get a good response."
Capt Ehab Gharby from local exhibitor Alghais Diving said,"We are in the business of diving and hope to receive good response from visitors in the coming days."
Besides local participation, QIBS has attracted some of the well-known international brands in yachting industry. The highlight of the show is the majestic 77-metre long yacht Silver Fast, designed by Espen Oenio.
The CEO of Art Marine Gregor Stinner who has been regularly participating in the QBIS said,"We are representative the Ferretti group, the world leader in the design and construction of luxury yachts. We have four yachts on display at the show of which one has already been bought by a Qatari client and will be delivered to him, once the show is over."
