The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has announced it will close a small section of an existing diversion on Al Wukair Road. The diversion will start on Sunday and last for 7 months in coordination with the Traffic Police Department.
During the period, vehicles travelling towards Al Wakra will be diverted on to a one-kilometre two-lane parallel road to continue their journey.
The diversion is to enable the construction of a major interchange on the Al Wakra Bypass project, part of Ashghal's Expressway Programme. The project will deliver 11 kilometres of new dual carriageway with five lanes in each direction and five interchanges, providing better connectivity between Doha and Mesaieed while linking the south of the city to Hamad International Airport and Doha Port.
Ashghal has requested all road users to abide by the 50 kmph speed limit and follow diversion road signs to ensure their safety.
With the camping season underway, it also reminded road users to exercise special care while driving to their campsite by further reducing speed.
