Qatar Red Crescent Society's (QRCS) branch in Al Khor City has seen a strong growth in its programmes and services for the local community in Al Shamal region this year, covering social security, health care, and training courses. This year to date, Al Khor branch has served 32,355 people, at a total cost of QR1,575,447.
QRCS implemented economic, academic and health-empowerment programmes as well as provided food aid for 637 beneficiaries, at a cost of QR246,000. It also participated in various programmes and activities by other social organisations and national celebrations, like the Qatar National Day and National Sports Day.
During the year, QRCS offered medical services and health education at a cost of QR854,447. These included the medical coverage of participants and the public during sports, entertainment, and tourism events in the northern part of the country, in addition to the Qatar National Day and National Sports Day. Emergency medical coverage is also provided at the residential complexes of oil companies and the Al Khor Family Park during weekends.
Another medical training project is 'I am a paramedic', which involves first-aid training for government bodies, NGOs, companies, and schools. A total of 1,082 people attended the course at 10 schools.
In health education, 25 lectures were delivered to more than 2,000 people. Health information was provided to the attendance of 12 health events by other institutions, with 6,000 beneficiaries in total. The branch also provided health education for 1,500 people under its Ramadan medical project.
QRCS seeks to promote volunteerism by engaging the youth in social and charitable activities, with 880 volunteering hours recorded over the year. Examples of these events include the National Sports Day, the World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, Together for Benevolence (aid for expatriate workers), Safe Spring Camp, and other events and activities.
During the holy month of Ramadan 1437 AH, Al Khor branch set up a tent to provide Ramadan iftar meals, hold religious and health lectures, and offer blood sugar and pressure tests for free. These services were received by 21,000 people, at a cost of QR475,000.
