PRINCE Michael of Kent officially inaugurated GEMS Wellington School - Qatar, a branch of Premier Schools International, on Wednesday.
Several dignitaries including Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed Saud Abdulrahman al Thani and British Ambassador to Qatar HE Ajay Sharma attended the opening ceremony along with students, their families and teachers.
Speaking to Qatar Tribune, Prince Michael, who is the patron of GEMS Wellington International School in Dubai, said,"GEMS Wellington school has achieved great reputation in a very short time of its existence due to the high standards it has set for itself."
He added,"The teachers at the school come from all over the world. Thus, the school provides high quality British education with an international flavour to the local community. Each student I have met today is happy and confident."
For his part, the Principal of the school Jonathan Dey said:"Having opened a year ago, the school currently has 496 students. However, we are set to expand the school in the new academic year with opening of a new class in January next year."
The school which opened its doors in October last year offers an outstanding education from Foundation Stage to Year 9 and has a Ministry of Education and Higher Education's licence to expand to Year 13 in the coming years.
Dey added,"Getting the best out of each student is our priority, as the school shapes how a student will learn and interpret the world as an adult. Parents are invited to be involved in their child's education, and our team of qualified and dedicated professionals prides itself on the relationships they have built with parents and the community environment that has been created."
In a statement, Managing Director and Board Member, GEMS Education, Dino Varkey, said,"We are celebrating the development of GEMS Wellington schools as a leading provider of world-class British curriculum to international students. Over the years, this school has become a trusted environment of excellence where students thrive and succeed. We are proud to say that almost 10,000 students attend GEMS Wellington Schools in the GCC, and our alumni from these schools have been accepted by the leading Universities and Colleges in the world."
The school is located in Al Wakrah and it is owned and operated by GEMS Education in Qatar and joins the GEMS' English National Curriculum school network in the Middle East which includes GEMS' flagship GEMS Wellington International School in Dubai.
