SOME residents of Barwa Village seem to be unhappy with an increase in traffic congestions and noise pollution caused by the recent opening of commercial establishments within the complex. Most of the commercial establishments, which were rented out a long time ago, started their business recently, thereby attracting large number of customers from outside.
A large number of wholesale traders dealing in building materials and equipment required for automobile and oil and gas industry shifted their businesses to Barwa Village after many of their shops in Doha city were demolished.
These shops still have their loyal customers who continue to visit them in their new location.
Talking to Qatar Tribune, residents gave a mixed reaction. While some were happy with the increasing convenience after the opening of a large number of shops, others were peeved at the growing traffic congestions and shortage of parking areas.
Welcoming the developments, manager of a Trading and Contracting Company, Muhammed Mustaffa, said:"We had run our business in Doha city for the last 24 years and had established strong ties with our customers. So, when we shifted to the Barwa Village, our customers followed us to the new locations."
However, some residents claimed that the Village has lost its"calm with all these developments".
An Indian school teacher said,"Until recent months, Barwa Village was an ideal residential place offering children a large play area. It also boasted of a huge parking lot. But now, it has turned into a busy 'township' leaving little room for children to play or parking space to allow you to park your vehicle. In the peak hours of business, you will find the parking space occupied by vehicles loading and unloading commodities."
Experts in the real estate sector, however, pointed out that Barwa Village's residential properties were the most in demand today.
