October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and healthcare officials, cancer survivors, and corporate brands do their bit to educate people about the advantages of early detection and treatment of breast cancer.
iQatar organised 'Pink High Tea' at Zaffran Dining Experience to show support, spread awareness and raise funds for Qatar Cancer Society.
It was attended by nearly 50 women who pinned pink ribbons to their clothes to show support, while pink balloons adorned the fund-raiser. Guests were welcomed with a pink lemonade created specially by the restaurant for the occasion.
The event began with an informative talk by Dr Hadi Mohamad Abu Rasheed from the Qatar Cancer Society. He spoke about self check-ups and how to carry them out. Information brochures were also distributed to guests on the occassion.
Rasheed talked about the current campaign being run by the Qatar Cancer Society free mammograms are available to female residents in Qatar between the age 45-69 to mark Breast Cancer Awareness month. Women below the age bracket can call 80001112 to book an appointment at either of their two screening centres at Al Wakra or Leabaib.
He also advised women who have previously suffered from breast cancer to contact their physicians at the PHCC for further guidance.
After the talk, the stage was taken by Qatar Society for Rehabilitation and Special Needs CEO Alyazi al Kuwari, a cancer survivor who was the guest of honour. She spoke about her journey of courage, hope and positive attitude that helped her fight throat cancer and asked women to support others suffering from it.
Guests were later asked to write down their wishes on the balloons. Everyone wished for health and happiness for women, and together they released the pink balloons in the air to send their wishes heavenwards.

A special pink and healthy menu was rustled up by Zaffran for the evening. The benefits of each food item were mentioned against its name on the menu. The menu included Pink Cotton, Cheesy melon rock, Dollar pink belly, funny sponge cake, poulet 'n' pots, pink egg, chicken and olive bruschetta , pink cheese roll and pink desserts.
