A total of 27,766 children received vaccination during the first four days of the National Immunisation Campaign against Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR), the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has said.
As many as 4,641 children received vaccination at clinics at PHCC centres, while 8,672 children were vaccinated at independent schools and kindergartens. In all, 13,253 children received vaccination at private schools and 1,200 at semi-government and private health centres and hospitals.
The ministry pointed out that the large turnout at the campaign reflected the high awareness among citizens and residents of the importance of vaccinating their children to protect them from infectious diseases.
The experts participating in the campaign from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention have expressed their satisfaction with the campaign plan and the implementation mechanism. They predicted high coverage rates of immunisation, thanks to the smooth implementation process across schools and the broad participation of the public and private sector institutions.
The immunisation campaign, which targets children between one and 13 years, kicked off on Monday with mobile medical teams from the MoPH, PHCC and Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) visiting independent and private schools.
The medical ambulance service of HMC was also made available to deal with any emergency situations as part of the steps to ensure the highest safety standards during vaccination of children at schools.
The MoPH said it has not received any reports of severe side-effects of the vaccine and called upon parents to ensure that their children have breakfast on the day of vaccination.
The ministry has received many inquiries about the campaign via the hotline 66740948 for the Arabic language, and 66740951 for English language in addition to messages at [email protected]. All enquiries were replied to.
The campaign will continue until November 14. In addition to the vaccination at schools, PHCC centres will provide vaccination in morning and afternoon shifts, as well as at outpatient clinics of HMC, Sidra Medical and Research Centre and clinics of Qatar Petroleum.
In all, 23 centres and hospitals in the private sector also provide vaccination free of charge to children. Children who are not registered at PHCC centres can be vaccinated at any of these centres.
