A primary health centre managed by the Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) in the Al Sakhoor area was affected by the airstrikes on the Syrian city of Aleppo on Saturday, QRCS has said.
According to a press release on Sunday, two patients were killed and eight injured as four bombs were dropped from a helicopter on the health facility, causing damage to nearly half of the health centre. The attack resulted in it being put out of service. The attack has meant that thousands of civilians would be deprived of the much-needed medical assistance, the statement said.
QRCS condemned the attacks on the facility and a local ambulance as well as on other medical facilities that are supported by international NGOs.
The organisation called upon the international community to intervene and put an end to attacks on medical and health facilities in Syria.
Dr. Hashem Darwish, Head of Health Programme at QRCS's Mission in Turkey said,"The direct targeting of the primary healthcare centre in Al Sakhoor area of Aleppo, which resulted in the death of some patients and injury to a number of others, is a war crime and a violation of the Protocols of 1977 and the Geneva conventions of 1949, that recognises the importance of protecting the Red Cross and Red Crescent societies, other authorised impartial relief organisations and neutral governments that provide humanitarian service in areas of conflict".
