Investors based out of Qatar are keen to invest in Indian tourism and hospitality sector, said Indian Business and Professional Network (IBPN) member Mohammad Ansari, who recently led a high-profile Qatari delegation to a tourism investors' summit in New Delhi.
Comprising entrepreneurs from the country, including Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker, Lulu International Exchange Managing Director Adeeb Ahamed and other expatriate businessmen, the delegation discussed investment opportunities in India, including the possibilities of FDI in hospitality sector and MSME in core tourism infrastructure.
Start-ups and investments in Indian campaign to digitise services - called Digital India - were also part of the discussion, Ansari said.
Besides, the summit dedicated space for seminars, business-to-business meetings and roundtables around focus themes.
"For IBPN it is a remarkable step to lead an official delegation consisting of a mix of nationalities from Qatar to a high-profile event in India. We are looking forward to taking a larger delegation to the forthcoming investment summit in Gujarat in the month of January 2017," said IBPN's KM Varghese.
The summit showcased more than 100 projects with investment potential, and saw the signing of 86 pacts for the development of tourism and hospitality projects. It was jointly organised by the Confederation of Indian Industries and the country's Ministry of Tourism and its campaign to promote tourism, called Incredible India.
Inaugurated by Indian Finance Minister Arun Jaitlely, the summit had a host of national and international speakers, including cabinet secretaries, tourism secretaries, CII president, and Indian Tourism Minister Mahesh Sharma.
Sharma assured protection for foreign investments and ease of process for acquiring land identified by investors.
