THE Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) hosted a solo exhibition of Saudi artist Naiel Mulla, titled 'Oriental Melody'.
The exhibition was inaugurated by the General Manager of Cultural Village Foundation Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim al Sulaiti along with the Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Qatar HE Abdullah bin Abdulaziz al Aifan. The heads of diplomatic missions and artists were also present on the occasion.
'Oriental Melody' is the first exhibition by Saudi artist Mulla outside Saudi Arabia. It kickstarts his tour which will cover Arab region and Europe.
Sulaiti, said:"Through his paintings, Naiel Mulla has artistically conveyed the oriental spirit of the Arabia Gulf. The exhibition offers an opportunity for all those interested in capturing genuine features and the spirit of Saudi and Gulf art scenes."
He added:"The 'Oriental Melody' is an added value to the series of art exhibitions by renowned Saudi, regional and international artists hosted by Katara."
Ambassador Abdullah bin Abdulaziz al Aifan thanked Katara, saying:"This cultural hub and platform, which welcomes artists from the Gulf and beyond, celebrate their work by offering them exposure to multi-cultural audience. It deserves appreciation for playing such a vital role."
Mulla has so far participated in more than 50 exhibitions and competitions since 1982. This exhibition displays a range of paintings featuring the artist's heritage, cultural and Islamic roots. Mulla said:"I'm thrilled and grateful for my presence in the Cultural Village Foundation. It is a complete cultural village that brings various cultures together."
The artist later gifted the Katara chief one of his paintings as a token of gratitude and appreciation.
The exhibition has displayed a vintage collection of paintings reflecting Saudi culture, specifically the holy city of Makkah, which is the birthplace of the artist who studied art in Ireland and Spain and spent four decades painting to capture the oriental spirit of the region.
