Minister of Public Health HE Dr Hanan Mohammed al Kuwari inaugurated the second edition of Qatar International Medical Congress (QIMC) at Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre on Wednesday.
The congress brings together researchers and doctors to exchange expertise in the medical field and companies to display their latest innovations and equipment.
The minister also toured the pavilions showcasing the latest innovations in technology as well as research findings in health industry. The exhibition will run until May 20.
Speaking on behalf of the Healthcare Communication Committee of the MoPH, Hassan Mohammed al Hail said the healthcare sector in Qatar today is witnessing rapid development in terms of both quality and quantity."In addition to the improvement in the quality of healthcare services provided to patients, the healthcare spectrum in the country is expanding according to an ambitious plan and a clear vision."
Hail added,"The Healthcare Master Plan of Qatar, which was prepared in 2013, represents a roadmap for establishing new healthcare facilities capable of meeting the healthcare needs of the population of Qatar up to the year 2033.
"The related executive plan had been drawn in light of the projected population growth and the respective healthcare needs in terms of the numbers, sizes, locations, classifications, quality standards and service area coverage."
Speaking during the opening, QIMC CEO Abdullah Abdurazaq Haider said,"This year's conference will not only advance the value of the medical industry for the region, but will also offer new economic value as well. We are pleased to welcome our delegates and visitors to this year's event."
The congress is expected to draw 10,000 attendees over the three-day expo.
The congress will provide an opportunity for the field experts to get up to date with medical advancements and future of the medical industry.
The PHCC employees were present at the event to raise awareness about the importance of screening for breast and bowel cancer.
National Cancer Programme Director of Marketing Nancy Ala'eddin said that through their presence at the event they wanted to encourage people to go for breast and bowel cancer screening as the diseases are treatable if detected early.
"We want to make sure that people who are at risk to come and get screened. We started breast and bowel screening clinic at Al Wakrah Health Center in January and at Alebaib Health Center in March. Mobile van for breast cancer screening will be launched early next month and will roam around the country," Ala'eddin added.
Almaha Medical Executive Manager Mourad Mellah said that new innovations and technologies would be discussed at the conference.
Some of the topics discussed on the first day of the conference included, biomarkers' role in improving cervical cancer screening efficacy; advancing microbial diagnostics technologies to improve detection and patient outcome and application of state-of-the-art statistical methods on omics data.
