Qatar Charity (QC) has delivered a consignment of food items to feed more than 500 Kenyan households in Qatar in view of the COVID-19
crisis.
The food packages comprising sugar, oil, rice, salt, rice, flour, canned tuna, concentrated milk, teabags, pasta and baked green and white beans were delivered to the Kenyan Embassy by QC official Mohammed Aderdor.
The packages, which will be distributed to needy families in the Kenyan community, were received by Kenyan Ambassador to Qatar HE Paddy C Ahenda and his deputy Washington Oloo in the presence of Kenyan community leaders.
Speaking to Qatar Tribune, Aderdor said many people including families and bachelors have been facing challenges as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. “Qatar Charity is doing its best to cover some of the daily needs of families and workers in Qatar who are facing difficulties due to the present situation. We aim to distribute 30,000 food packages to different communities in the country.”
He saidt 20 embassies in Qatar have already received their consignments while others will receive them on Saturday and Sunday.
The embassies that have received the food packages include Bangladesh, Pakistan, India, Syria, Tunisia, Algeria and Ethiopia. “We prefer to coordinate with the embassies for the distribution to avoid any confusion. The embassies then coordinate with their communities for its distribution,” said Aderdor.
Aderdor added that the Kenyan Embassy can contact QC if its needs more food items for the community.
The Kenyan ambassador thanked QC for its support. “On behalf of the Kenyan Embassy and the Kenyan community, I would like to convey our gratitude to Qatar Charity for this support. The packages have come at the right time because we have received information that many families are in distress. We have a large Kenyan community in Qatar working in different sectors.”
There are more than 35,000 Kenyans in Qatar and QC has a field office in Nairobi, Kenya. The organisation operates in more than 70 countries in Africa, Asia and Europe, helping people affected by crises and disasters.
