Qatar faces no shortage of goods, including perishable food items, Hassad Food CEO Mohamed al Sadah has said.
The country is in a state of complete sufficiency, he said.
“Everything is fine. We are ready (for any eventuality). We have plans that can be quickly activated. We have signed deals with suppliers in five countries. In the event of any shortage of any kind, Hassad Food Company, under the guidance of HH the Amir and HE Prime Minister, is ready to intervene and cover any shortage within 48 hours.”
“We are working at full capacity and the private sector is working hard as well. The shelves of grocery stores and hypermarkets in Qatar are full,” he said.
More than a thousand tonnes of vegetables, fruits and food items are in cold storage at one of the sites owned by Mahaseel, a subsidiary of Hassad Food. A similar amount of products are part of Mahaseel’s strategic stock elsewhere.
Sadah said Qatar has successfully overcome the blockade imposed by the Saudi-led quartet in 2017. The spread of coronavirus is “much simpler” to deal with, he added.
The authorities have closed Al Sailiya Central Market for a day. The market has been sterilised and it will open for the public on Tuesday.
