The 6th Doha Islamic Finance Conference (DIFC) has called for increased Shariah-compliant investments in the sports sector as it made a host of recommendations to improve Islamic finance in Qatar.
The day-long conference, which was held under the patronage of Prime Minister and Minister of Interior HE Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz al Thani on Tuesday, recommended increased focus on innovation, technology, investment management, debt treatment and transparency to overcome an anticipated subdued growth in global GDP.
Speakers at the conference called for the setting up for Shariah-compliant goals and the adoption of scientific ways of achieve them.
Increased coordination between Islamic finance entities, universities and scientific research centres were also sought by experts addressing the conference.
The 6th Doha Islamic Finance Conference was organised by Bait Al-Mashura Finance Consultations in cooperation with Barwa Bank, Qatar Olympic Committee, Qatar Financial Centre, Qatar Development Bank and Qatar Finance House. College of Sharia and Islamic Studies at Qatar University, College of Islamic Studies at Hamad bin Khalifa University, Community College of Qatar and International Shari’ah Research Academy for Islamic Finance (ISRA) of Malaysia also extended their support in organising the conference.
The conference saw discussions on four central themes — Predict the financial and economic crises and their impact on Islamic finance; Islamic finance and recent trends towards sports sector; Islamic trading platforms, and innovation and artificial intelligence in Islamic finance.
