Jakarta: Floods hit large sections of the Indonesian capital Jakarta and its surrounding areas on Tuesday after days of rain, inundating thousands of homes and killing at least one person.
Floodwaters were recorded at 81 locations in Jakarta, including the city’s business district, said Agus Wibowo, spokesman for the National Disaster Management Agency.
“Heavy rain and strong winds are expected to last until Wednesday,” Agus said. “We call on the public to be prepared.” The bad weather also caused traffic havoc.
A man died when his motorcycle crashed into a curb while riding through a flooded street in central Jakarta, traffic police chief Lilik Sumardi said. (AFP)
