THE Ambassador of China to Qatar HE Zhou Jian has praised Qatar for supporting China with medical supplies at a time when the country is battling with the coronavirus.
In a statement, Jian expressed gratitude to the government and people of Qatar on behalf of the Chinese government and people, and said the assistance extended by Qatar in these critical times stressed the fraternal ties between China and Qatar.
He also thanked Qatar Airways for opening a “green channel” for donating and transporting medical supplies to China.
Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Akbar al Baker, in a statement, said, “When this crisis began, we knew we had to contribute to supporting our friends in China. As one of the leading air cargo carriers in the world, we are in a unique position where we are able to provide immediate humanitarian support through the provision of aircraft and donating medical supplies as well as coordinating logistical arrangements.”
Baker added, “We hope our combined efforts with the Chinese Embassy in Qatar can help limit the spread of this virus, ease the burden on local medical personnel and provide relief to the impacted communities in China.”
Qatar Airways has sent five cargo freighters to China carrying 300 tonnes of medical supplies donated by the airline to support coronavirus relief efforts. Five flights departed one after the other bound for Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.
The Chinese ambassador added, “We firmly believe that under the strong leadership of President Xi Jinping, with the strength and solidarity of 1.4 billion Chinese people, and with the understanding and support of the international community, China will eventually win the battle against the coronavirus.”
