The first-ever Al Wasmi Katara Garden Festival kicked off at Katara on Tuesday, with floral-themed gardens from Europe, Asia and the Middle East mesmerising the visitors.
The festival, which will run until February 22, showcases fabulous garden arrangements complimented with set-ups, decorations, cuisine and music celebrating the culture of the featured country and themes.
The festival, which attracted a large number of visitors from different nationalities on the first day, was inaugurated by Katara General Manager Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim al Sulaiti together with Group CEO of Qatar Airways and Secretary-General of Qatar National Tourism Council Akbar al Baker and a number of diplomats.
Sulaiti said Katara is the first tourism destination in Qatar, a valley of cultures and an international forum to promote cultural exchange.
“We are delighted to support the Al Wasmi Garden Festival. It is a fantastic new initiative for Qatar that will delight residents and visitors alike, and is a great addition to our country’s excellent calendar of events. I hope that visitors to the festival will especially enjoy the French Garden by Qatar Airways, inspired by the palace gardens of France,” Baker said.
Among the main attractions is the exquisitely-designed French Garden by Qatar Airways. It is highlighted with a Eiffel Tower-like structure and finest coffee stalls that complete the Paris-like ambience.
The Japanese garden is designed like a typical zen garden recreating the relaxing feel of exploring rock gardens with flower origami and water features.
The Indian garden is dressed with colourful flower arrangements and elephant structures adorning the space.
The Arabic Falaj Garden (Qatari Garden) offers flower potting, story telling and basket weaving. Other featured areas are the English garden, Art garden and Secret garden.
Luxury and classic cars adorned with flower bouquets are situated at every corner of the festival and among the perfect spots in the event for photography.
The festival also features a Flower Market catering to flowers and gardening enthusiasts. The stalls offer seeds, flowers, plants as well as equipment and décor for those with green thumbs.
The Green Arena showcases live fairytale shows inspired by every garden destination while arts and crafts are available in all the gardens.
Activities catering to children include bird watching, pony riding, games at the Green Playground and art workshops. While foodies and coffee lovers will get to feast on a variety of snacks, pastries and specialty coffee brands while touring the world through the international gardens.
