THE Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ on Monday announced the opening of a new underpass of 500m length at Mesaimeer Interchange, easing traffic flow from E Ring Road towards Doha Expressway.
The new underpass can accommodate more than 3,000 cars per hour and it is the fourth out of nine underpasses being constructed at the interchange.
On this occasion, Eng Ahmad Ali al Emadi said that the new underpass is the fourth big achievement at Mesaimeer Interchange to be opened to traffic two months ahead of schedule. He also hinted at completion of about 80 percent of construction works at this interchange.
“The new underpass connects traffic from E Ring Road towards Doha Expressway, providing smooth traffic for commuters from Al Thumama and Old Airport and heading towards Doha Expressway,” he added.
The newly constructed Mesaimeer Interchange is the first of its kind in Qatar, consisting three levels with nine underpasses to facilitate free flow traffic. The 6.1km-long interchange consists of three to four lane carriageways to accommodate around 20,000 cars per hour in both directions.
