In a move to promote and protect workers’ rights, the Public Works Authority (Ashghal), in cooperation with the Ministries of Finance, Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs (MADLSA), has put in place new measures to ensure salaries reach workers engaged in authority’s projects.
The procedures for preserving labour rights taken by Ashghal includes a condition added to in tender documents, a statement from MADLSA to requiring the companies to complete the payment of workers’ dues.
It is one of the basic criteria for accepting the bidders’ documents.
It also stipulates the provision of project data in the authority to the MADLSA in order for the ministry to inspect the progress of procedures for the payment of workers’ wages.
Companies are also obligated to issue a certificate from Qatar Credit Bureau on the their financial position, explaining the extent of its commitment to banks and customers.
Ashghal, in coordination with the MADLSA and related parties, will undertake to follow up the implementation of these tasks in the future to ensure their application and effectiveness.
