THE Ministry of Transport and Communications (MoTC), in partnership with Microsoft, hosted an event to demonstrate how the Microsoft Azure Cloud can enable public and private organisations to build infrastructures and accelerate their digital transformation journeys.
The event, titled ‘Azure - Build on your own terms’, brought together decision-makers to witness the capabilities of the Microsoft Azure Cloud and its open platform approach to help build or migrate workloads and applications, as well as make use of advanced technologies such as AI, Internet of Things and Mixed Reality.
The event builds on a recent announcement by MoTC and Microsoft to establish a data centre in Qatar, which is expected to go live in 2021. The new cloud region will enable organisations in the country to avail enterprise-grade performance, security, combined with data-residency and the broadest compliance.
“Our collaboration with Microsoft is a component of our ongoing efforts to accelerate Qatar’s digital transformation agenda and establish a region-leading, knowledge-based economy, as set forth in Qatar National Vision 2030,” said Mashael Ali al Hammadi, acting assistant undersecretary of Information Technology Affairs, Ministry of Transport and Communications.
“Qatar has been ahead of the curve in adopting new technologies as it realised early on the benefits of these innovations. Microsoft’s Azure Cloud is an open platform, and migration to this environment will enable our public and private entities greater freedom to adopt the technology mix that best suits their unique needs, while gaining access to robust security and compliance standards,” Hammadi added.
Attendees at the event also heard from Microsoft partners on various use cases and how the Microsoft cloud works with platforms from providers such as SAP, ESRI, VMware, OpenText and Red Hat. A panel of security experts highlighted offerings from Cisco, Trend Micro, F5 and Palo Alto Networks and the capabilities of these technologies to work in concert with Microsoft Azure in better protecting the digital estates of organisations across all industries.
“Digital transformation is a powerful tool when trying engage citizens and customers, empower employees, optimise operations and transform products and services”, said Lana Khalaf, country manager, Microsoft Qatar. “Our ongoing partnership with the Ministry of Transport and Communications to bring the Microsoft Cloud to the government, businesses and people of Qatar is a step forward in our efforts to empower every person and organisation in the country to achieve more on their own terms through a flexible, Intelligent and open cloud platform,” Khalaf added.
