THE Cultural Village Foundation ‘Katara’ and Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation ‘Kahramaa’, represented by its National Programme for Conservation and Energy Efficiency ‘Tarsheed’, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Monday to cooperate in spreading a culture of water and electricity conservation in Qatar.
The MoU will see both Kahramaa and Katara come together to organise events and activities familiarising residents with the best practices of optimal use of water and electricity.
Addressing a press conference, Katara’s General Manager Dr Khaled bin Ibrahim al Sulaiti expressed his hope that the agreement would contribute to opening up prospects for fruitful cooperation between Katara and Kahramaato educate the community on preserving natural resources and promoting right practices, leading to a healthy environment for current and future generations.
He added that workshops, competitions and other activities will be held to raise awareness of ways to conserve energy.
Sulaiti pointed out that the agreement is part of Katara’s continuous efforts to build effective partnerships with various institutions and organisations.
For his part, Kahramaa President Eng Essa bin Hilal al Kuwari, stressed that the MoU symbolises both the organisations’ keenness to have productive partnership in terms of promoting energy-efficient technologies and practices as well as renewable energy.
Kuwari added that the agreement reflected Kahramaa’s keenness to cooperate with all State institutions to promote sustainability in line with Qatar National Vision 2030. He added that Kahramaa, through its national programme ‘Tarsheed’, which celebrates its eighth anniversary soon, has managed to reduce harmful carbon emissions by 12 million tonnes so far.
