The Qatar Chamber (QC) and the British Embassy in Qatar will organise the third edition of the SME conference in Doha on March 2 and 3 under the patronage of Minister of Commerce and Industry HE Ali bin Ahmed al Kuwari.
“We aim to promote entrepreneurship and stimulate SME development to boost Qatar’s economic diversification and create new business opportunities in the local market,” Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim al Thani, the chairman of QC and the International Chamber of Commerce Qatar (ICC Qatar).
A business-to-business meeting will be held as part of the conference to facilitate deeper ties between the business communities in Qatar and the United Kingdom.
The conference will focus on SMEs from the UK, which has the sixth largest national economy in the world. SMEs account for over 90 percent of all UK companies and are among the most innovative in the world.
The objective of the event is to further increase trade between Qatar and the UK by working together through SMEs. The conference will offer a unique platform for UK SMEs to understand the kind of opportunities available in Qatar and to meet buyers and investors, while serving as a forum for both Qatar and the UK to share good practice and lessons learned.
UK’s Trade Commissioner for the Middle East Simon Penney, who will attend the conference, said, “The UK and Qatar share a strong economic relationship with sustained ambition from both Governments to increase bilateral trade and investment, further strengthening economic ties.
“Qatar is an exciting market with great potential for UK companies, especially with the FIFA World Cup 2022 and its ambitious National Vision 2030. This event will enable UK SMEs to see for themselves the diverse range of opportunities that Qatar offers.”
