Highlighting the message of healthy living and the key role sports plays in this, the Indian community in Qatar celebrated the Qatar National Sport Day with great zeal. Thousands of Indian expatriates participated in programmes at Al Wakra Sports Club and Qatar Sports Club to mark the day.
Indian Sports Centre, an apex body under the aegis of the Embassy of India in Qatar, organised various sports activities at Asian Town. Indian Ambassador to Qatar HE P Kumaran played cricket with ISC officials and celebrated the Qatar National Sport Day.
Tug of war competitions were organised for men at Asian Town, Industrial Area, mostly involving Indian workers. Out of the 12 participating teams, Sports Association Kerala (SAK) Qatar emerged the winner and Doha Warriors were the runners-up.
Besides tug of war, ‘box cricket’ was also organised with 10 teams participating. Team Khalli Valli Fun Club emerged the champions while Akbar Travels came second.
Indian Olympian Tintu Luka attended the other mega Indian community event organised by Kerala expatriate forum Chaliyar Doha at Al Wakra Sports Club. Luca inaugurated the Sports Fest and released the Chaliyar Doha Sports Fest supplement handing it over to CM Haris, director of Secura Developers Pvt Ltd.
Luka also accepted the guard of honor at the march past which was attended by 24 Panchayaths.
While Kodiyathur Panchayath won the overall championship with 73 points, Feroke Panchayath bagged the second place with 68 points.
Chaliyar Doha President Abdul Latheef, Faroke presided over the function. The others who attended the event included Chaliyar Doha Chief Advisor VC Mashhood, Sharaf P Hameed, Jutas Paul, Jaffer Khan, Abdul Rahman, SAM Basheer KM Jameela, Abdul Aziz Edacherry, Zameel Chaliyamand Keshavdas Nilambur.
More than 3,000 people gathered at the QSC to witness the concluding and prize distribution ceremony and cultural and musical performances by prominent local artists and children.
The event was attended by President of Cultural Forum Taj Aluva, Relations Manager at Hamad Medical Corporation Nasser Fadol Al Salahi Al Yafiee, Massimiliano Montanari, Jishna Mohan, Sahfeeq Kabeer, Hari Subrahmani, Shanib Shamsudeen, Muhammed Ali Saithukunj, Faisal Kunnath and Niyas TA.
As many as 300 people attended the Sports Day event organised by Kerala expatriate forum Enamakkal Kettungal Welfare Association (EKWA) at the American Academy School in Doha.
Director of Al Kanz Trading and Services Khaled Mubarak Ghanem Al Naemi inaugurated the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Naemi urged the community members to make sports a part of their daily life to lead a healthy life.
The event also featured a seminar on ‘Sports and Health’. Those who attended the seminar included Ghanem Khaled Mubarak al Naemi, EKWA General Secretary Musthak Haris, Vice President Rasheed Khalid, Sports Committee Convener Safeer Sidik, Jamal Muhammad, Nafeesa Jamal, and EKWA office bearers Althaf Noordheen, Muhammad Rafi, Rasheed Buhari, Hudaifa Rasheed, Ansija Musthak, Sabeena Abdul Aziz and Raziya Althaf.
The event concluded with a grand prize distribution ceremony.
