Uganda, under the captaincy of Brian Masaba, are coming to Qatar on Monday on a short trip. This is the first time that both countries will play a Twenty20 International series of three matches.
Apart from the T20Is, Uganda will also feature in two 50-over-a-side matches against the President’s Eleven, with the first one being part of the Qatar National Sport Day programme on February 11.
Qatar Cricket Association President Yousef Jeham al Kuwari, while welcoming the African team, said in a release that the QCA is delighted to host Uganda for a series in which both teams will play three official Twenty20 International matches.
“Uganda are visiting Qatar on their first T20 International trip. We extend our warmest welcome and hope the touring team will enjoy the series and Qatar’s famed hospitality.
“This is the proud privilege for the QCA to have Uganda team on a tour here. Since July last year, this is the third bilateral series involving Qatar.
“In July last year, we hosted Kuwait and Jersey visited us in October last year also. Both Uganda and Qatar teams will play hard and benefit from the matches, besides enriching their experience for the upcoming international challenges,” Kuwari added.
Iqbal Hussain Chaudhry will skipper the home team, which has had 11 wins in 15 T20I matches. At the moment, Qatar are ranked 22nd in the world, while the visitors are having the 35th ranking.
Essa al Yaqoub is the Head of Qatar delegation. Gul Khan Jadoon has been appointed the Team Manager, while Shahid Mahboob is the Coach.
QCA Operations Manager Manzoor Ahmad said the Uganda will play their first T20 International on the Qatar trip on February 12 at the Asian Town Stadium at 6 pm. After the second T20I at the same venue next day, the tourists will take part in a 50-over-a-side match, their second one against the President’s Eleven on February 14.
The third and last T20I is scheduled on February 15 before the tourists depart
