Shura Council Speaker HE Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid al Mahmoud has renewed Qatar’s full support for the rights of Palestinians and all peace efforts within the framework of international legitimacy.
In his speech at the 30th extraordinary conference of Inter-Parliamentary Union (APU) on supporting the Palestinian brothers in their just cause, Mahmoud said Qatar and the Qatari people led by the Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani have been and are still supporting the Palestinian people in the besieged Gaza Strip and in the West Bank.
“Qatar will not abandon them out of its belief in their right and in fulfillment of its moral responsibility to stand with the truth and support the oppressed,” he said.
He stressed Qatar’s support for all peace endeavours and efforts made to find solutions to the cause within the framework of international legitimacy and the relevant United Nations resolutions.
Mahmoud affirmed that it is not the right of any regime or entity to act to deprive the Palestinians of their inalienable rights, to force them to relinquish an inch of the occupied land or to impose an unilateral opinion or solution.
“The restoration of our rights comes only through the concerted efforts and our full support of the Palestinian people that represents our first steadfast line of defence, especially in the face of what is known as the deal of the century, which is the unilateral American initiative that does not meet the rights of the Palestinian people and is not based on international legitimacy decisions, the Arab peace initiative that have been put forward since 2002, Oslo agreement or any previous agreement or endeavour,” he said.
He pointed out that what is known as the deal of the century has been rejected by the Palestinian people.
Mahmoud reaffirmed that the Arab peace initiative laid a set of foundations for peace, and that peace is possible as long as it is just and sustainable — a peace that restores the right of the Palestinian people, guarantees the establishment of an independent state on its land on the borders of June 4, 1967 with East Jerusalem as its capital, guarantees the right of return, remunerative compensation for the martyrs, the wounded and the prisoners, and guarantees the release of those who remained in prison.
