Swingman Malcolm Bernard, guard Madrious Gibbs and centre Khobi Williamson combined for a massive 70 points as Al Khor Club scraped an upset 92-91 overtime victory against Qatar Sports Club during a QBF League match on Tuesday.
Bernard got the maximum 26 points for the winners. Gibbs collected 23, Williamson had 21 points with 13 rebounds, while Moustafa Lashin earned 16.
The match was quite close as the lead changed hands four times but both the teams were locked on 11 occasions. Al Khor lagged behind the rivals even in vital stats like scoring from the floor and rebounds.
But Al Khor made a good use of turn-overs and their 20-6 edge proved a big boost for the winners, who were five points ahead at the interval (47-42) but tied the scores at 83-83. During the overtime, they trailed by five points with 2:58 left. Gibbs’s try knotted the scores at 90 for the last time and he scored a go-ahead basket as well to give Al Khor a two-point advantage with only 28 seconds remaining.
Saud Azhar Nadeem fouled on guard Jonathan Lee, who missed one free throw under intense pressure with 12 seconds to go. Al Khor then played out the remaining time and posted their only second victory in 15 matches so far.
The result sent Al Khor to the eighth spot, demoting Al Sadd to the last place. Qatar Sports Club are in the seventh place with 19 points from four losses in 15 matches.
Lee had a double-double of 28 points and 12 rebounds for Qatar Sports Club. So did Keanau Post (16 points and 11 rebounds). Guard Kevin Bracy had 27 and Ahmed Abdalla
got 12.
