The Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani on Tuesday issued Amiri Order No 2 of 2020 appointing HE Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz al Thani as the new prime minister of Qatar.
The new prime minister took oath of office as the prime minister and minister of interior at the Amiri Diwan before HH the Amir.
According to Amiri Diwan, Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz al Thani assumed the charge as the chief of Amri Diwan on November 11, 2014, following issuance of Amiri Order No 5 of 2014.
Prior to that, he was director of the Amir’s office since HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani took over in 2013.
Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz al Thani was born in 1968 and received his pre-university education in Qatar.
Later, he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the United States of America in 1993.
He started his career with Qatar Liquefied Gas Co Ltd where he worked until 2002.
Subsequently, the PM moved to work in the office of the first deputy prime minister and minister of foreign affairs between 2002 and 2006.
In March, 2006, he joined the Amiri Diwan in the Office of HH the Crown Prince and was appointed director of the Office of the Private Secretary to His Highness on July 11, 2006.
Then, he was appointed director of HH the Crown Prince’s office at Amiri Diwan on January 9, 2007.
This was followed by his appointment as the director of HH the Amir’s office on June 25, 2013, when HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani took over as the Amir of Qatar.
