HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad al Thani, President of the Qatar Olympic Committee, extended his congratulations to HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani, and to the Qatari people, on the national handball team winning the 19th AHF Asian Men’s Handball Championship for the fourth successive time on Monday.
Qatar beat South Korea 33-21 in the final held in Kuwait City, Kuwait.
HE Sheikh Joaan said that the achievement is a result of the efforts of all including players, the technical and administrative bodies and the Qatar Handball Association (QHA).
“We are proud of our national team winning the Asian Championship title as it is a big tournament, where the national team Al Adam proved, excelled and strengthened their position as champions of Asia with the strong and distinguished performances that they showed beating all the teams they faced during the tournament,” he added.
HE Sheikh Joaan also praised the performance of the players during the matches and said: “All the players were champions and played with a high fighting spirit in all the matches, stressing their competence with the continental achievement.”
He stressed that the team’s path in the tournament was not easy, whether in the group stages or in the semi-final and final as they faced strong opponents. He said that the next step is to prepare the team in the best way for the 2021 World Championship to be held in Cairo, Egypt.
Sheikh Joaan also praised the efforts of the Qatar Handball Association (QHA).
“Everyone has made a great effort throughout the past period in order to make the achievement and to keep the flag of Qatar flying high. We are waiting for the best from them at the next World Championship,” he said.
