The Ministry of Education and Higher Education participated in the celebration of the International Day of Education at the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in Vienna.
The event highlighted the role of higher education and strengthening of the rule of law as one of the axes of the World Programme for the Implementation of the Doha Declaration issued by the 13th Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice held in Doha in 2015.
In a speech on the occasion, Assistant Undersecretary for Special Education Affairs at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and the ministry’s representative at the celebration Omar Abdulaziz al Nama noted the role of Qatar in promoting the rule of law in schools by educating the next generation, preparing and equipping it to respond to contemporary challenges such as fighting corruption and electronic crime and organised crime.
He stressed the importance of the participation of other countries, following Qatar’s model in supporting the United Nations Office for constructive programmes that benefit societies and their stability.
Nama also stressed the role of the Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF) in sponsoring scientific research in investment and supporting researchers and young scholars with scholarships and participation in academic conferences.
He also emphasised the importance of educating the school community and universities about the rule of law, which would benefit societies in promoting stability and the ability to achieve the strategies for progress.
