The Embassy of Indonesia in Doha recently hosted ‘Fun Day: Fun Educational Workshop on Alzheimer’, to raise awareness of dementia and Alzheimer among Indonesians living in Qatar.
The event initiated by the Alzheimer Indonesia Chapter Doha, an association chaired by Dr Ken Lestariyani Sulis, was co-organised with the Indonesian Community Association in Qatar (Permiqa), Dharma Wanita Persatuan KBRI Doha -- an Indonesian women’s organisation which consists of wives of Indonesian civil servants, Indonesian Women Association in Qatar (Perwiq), the University of Indonesia Alumni Association in Qatar (Iluni UI), the Indonesian National Nurse Association (PPNI), photography community of Indonesian women in Qatar (Kompakers), and the Indonesian Student Association in Qatar (PPI).
In his welcome speech, Ambassador of Indonesia to Qatar HE M. Basri Sidehabi praised the enthusiastic participants. “The information and knowledge about dementia Alzheimer is very important to prepare ourselves by maintaining good mental and physical health, as well as to serve the elderly, especially our parents as an obligation for us as their children,” he said.
During the event, Dr Hanadi al Hamad, medical director of Rumailah Hospital and Qatar Rehabilitation Institute, and Noora al Jaidah, chairperson of Qatar Alzheimer’s Association, shared their valuable insights on Alzheimer.
The event also presented various fun activities such as fun talk with Dr Iqbal Mohtar, an Indonesian working as medical officer at the Qatar Petroleum; fun gym, which served as an exercise to stimulate psychomotor and brain functions; fun simulation, which used a virtual reality device to experience what happens to an Alzheimer patient; free medical check-up tagged fun health; fun photo booth as well as fun Angklung, a set of Indonesian traditional music device used as therapy for Alzheimer patients.
